Ascension Parish Library hosts historical, shopping and children’s events

Tortorich, retired school administrator and business owner, shares memories of Donaldsonville over the years, focusing on World War II, the Sunshine Bridge, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) established under the administration of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and more.

That same day at 1 p.m., the library will host a Virtual Small Business Seminar designed for people who want to learn what it takes to start and run a successful small business.
Presenter Sonia E. Wilson, Business Consultant with Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University and A&M College – Baton Rouge, will focus on helping attendees learn to determine the feasibility of their idea, as well as get a small business loan. Topics for discussion include: the goal of developing a workable business plan; assess business risks; development of marketing strategy; management planning; financial planning; identify sources of financing for business start-ups; dos and don’ts of borrowing money; the loan application process; and the key resources available for assistance.

Outer Space Sun Sensors
Starting Friday, visit any location in the Ascension Parish Library and collect a package containing a planet model, colorful fabric squares, and everything you will need to make a unique sun catcher. . Outer space sun catchers are fun for everyone. Preschoolers will love gluing the brightly colored fabric all over for a standout design, and older kids can create more intricate designs with the galaxy of colors provided. When you’re done with this frustration-free ship, tape your planet to a window, let the sun shine, and imagine you are flying into space. Be sure to take a photo of your finished creation and share it with us on Facebook or Instagram by tagging us @myAPLibrary. Designed for children and tweens ages 3-11. The LEGO Club meets on Saturday
Whether you are a newbie builder or a master of LEGO construction, you are sure to have fun putting the pieces together at the LEGO Club in the Ascension Parish Library. Visit the Ascension Parish Library in Galvez on Saturday at 10 a.m. and build anything you can imagine! We will provide the LEGO bricks, so leave your own blocks at home as we wouldn’t want you to lose your favorite pieces. However, materials and creations must remain in the library. You might want to bring a camera to capture the moment.
The LEGO Club is open to children of all ages. Duplo Blocks and Mega Bloks will be available for the youngest. Please Note: Contains small parts that pose a choking hazard and are not suitable for children under 3 years old. Bilingual story time
Live story time in two languages! Children ages 8 and under and their families are invited to visit the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales at 6 p.m. on October 21 for an exciting and interactive bilingual story hour presented in English and Spanish.
